Waking up in
the middle of the night with
heartburn can be quite annoying
if it happens once in a while
but when it happens
more
than 3 or 4 times a week, you
may not have a simple case of
heartburn. You might be
experiencing something a bit
more serious
called Gerd or better known as
acid reflux. One of the
first things you should do if
you think that you've got gerd
is to visit
your doctor. He or she may run
some tests to diagnose your
condition and if it is gerd
your doctor may be able to
offer you some
acid reflux
help.
If you are looking for acid
reflux help, there are some
things that you can do on your
own at home to help ease your
suffering.
Certain food and drink can
trigger a more intense attack
of gerd so do try to avoid
alcohol and coffee as caffeine
can cause
problems for those with
gerd. Try not to eat
anything that has garlic or
onions or any form of citrus
acid or juice in it.
Avoid
chocolate, peppermint and most
tomato products. Fatty
foods also contribute to acid
reflux so try to eat only
the leanest
of
meats.
There are other things you can
do to help reduce the symptoms
of Gerd. You'll find that
elevating yourself in your
sleep helps
and is made easier by using a
special pillow wedge that
offers acid reflux help. You
may also want to raise the head
of your bed
to obtain an even more upright
position. This keeps the
esophagus above your stomach
and stops the acid from your
stomach from
rising into your
esophagus. You'll also
find that not eating before bed
will decrease the symptoms of
gerd.
Finding acid reflux help in
over the counter medications is
an option as well. Antacids
help neutralize the acids in
the stomach
so there's no acid left in the
gut to reflux. The best
way to use antacids is to take
some about an hour after your
meal and then
again in another hour as they
empty from the stomach rather
quickly. Sometimes
prescription medication is
required and in
those
cases do follow doctors orders
whenever taking any
medications. Watch what
you eat and how you sleep and
take any
medications
that are prescribed and in no
time you will be feeling much
better.
